Childless Moms, Murder and "The View"
Submitted By Anonymous

I featured a woman on the show yesterday who had no children but very much a Mom on the Move. I was very excited about her because there are women who take on a mother’s role, who cannot by nature, or choice, have children of their own. Her purpose is just as important to the people she touches. I was trying to figure out a way to address the fact that not having your own children doesn’t mean you cannot mother, and then a woman named Mena Dabbundo showed up. (Story on homepage) There are tons of children and adults who need mothering in some way and Mena proves that no one ever needs to feel childless if they want to experience the joy of motherhood.

After the show, I taped a story about a mother whose daughter was murdered at age 25 by the husband. It took three years for her and her family to gain justice. You would think after a traumatic loss like that, it may be impossible to find joy in life again. But I walked into Bungalow 7, the lounge that she and her children own and run, and she was making people laugh, she was huggin everybody, we were dancing and she was “cookin with love,” as they say, in the kitchen. It is so true, if there is a will, there is a way in every way.

I used this “will an way” theory calling directory assistance a few years ago, trying to contact the director of “The View.” I found directory assistance has been very helpful in my television pursuits. You can always get through to a voicemail if you know a person’s name.

That voicemail I left was followed by a meeting in New York with the director of “The View”, Mark Gentile, who actually gave me the encouragement and advice I needed to get my start in TV. The encouragement was, “you have the genes for television”…not really sure what that meant but I felt encouraged. And, “Go make a home video of how you see your show. Do it over and over until you think you have it the way you envision it and let me see it.”

Now that was something a regular person with no experience like me, could do.

More tomorrow..
