Securing a Successful Financial Future for Young Adults!
Barbara Shea is making it easier for young adults to become financially independent, responsible, and successful with her complete "one stop shop" guide to securing a successful financial future.
This mom on the move has tapped into one of the best ways to experience success, growth, and a balanced life… by asking questions!
After receiving her BS in Chemistry, Barbara went on to pursue her MBA in business management, and from there, worked in the industry for 22 years. In 1998, Barbara made the decision to stay at home and focus on raising her kids. Being a mom, as is with most jobs, you are constantly learning new things, new perspectives, new strategies, and new lessons that guide you to new and sometimes unexpected endeavors and passions . It was as her kids grew into adults that she began to see the struggles that her children and her friends' children were having as they faced the working world and as they began to manage their money.
It was from this observation that Barbara felt the inspiration to write a book and so she did!
"Welcome to the Real World: The Young Adult Handbook to Securing a Financially Successful Future," is already becoming a huge a success! The book covers everything beginning with a young adult's first full time job moving forward to buying a house all the way through to retirement. "They don't have to go through 50 sites to find information, it's all right here!" she says enthusiastically.

"They don't have to go through 50 sites to find information, it's all right here!" she says enthusiastically.
"Work has changed, the rules of the game have changed." She says. "I started early on to instill upon them [ my kids ] values that focused more on savings and financial independence."
"It's a minefield out there!" she admits. "There are so many fees that young adults, just starting out, need to navigate through when trying to pay bills and save for the future. Many young adults do not understand all the deductions on their paycheck when they get out of school, so that is where I started in my book."

Many young adults do not understand all the deductions on their paycheck when they get out of school, so that is where I started in my book."
Barbara's mission to inform young adults how to be savvy with their money was reinforced when she went to Widener University to present her book. After she was finished, she was handed an article from Newsweek (November 2006), entitled "The Lessons I Didn't Learn in College." The article was written by a young adult as she reflected on the fact that she and her friends paid a lot of money for a college education and never learned how to manage money. What they learned was how to think. Today with the mounting college loan debt and the elimination of pensions, etc., Barbara says that young adults need to learn both, how to think and manage money.
In just three months, Barbara, the new "Suze Orman for new generations," wrote an easy –to-understand, straight forward, detailed book that tells the younger generation everything they need to know about saving, spending, and what to expect. "I put down 35 years of my knowledge and experiences in a concise and easy to read handbook so that young adults could use my information as their starting point from which to build upon and refer to for many years.
Not only has she created the perfect guide for young people; adults can benefit from as well. She has also created a website called YZGen.com, representing the current Y Generation and the future Z Generation of young adults.
This is a space that informs young adults on the latest economic information, gives them the opportunity to ask Barbara questions, interact with other young adults in an interactive forum, engage in a "Did You Know Section" where readers can post information and experiences that they've had pertaining to saving and managing finances, and information from her "Welcome to the Real World," guide book.
"It's a one stop shop for putting info in and getting info out," she says.
When asked what the top three messages to take away from her labor of love, Barbara says," #1. FICO Score and credit report, they control your life, #2. Insurances, know the different policies and healthcare plans, #3. Financial advisors and retirement plans – pensions are going away and it is more important today to start early with your savings."
She explains that it's important to know what your credit score range is, if you can get loans, what your interest rates are, and what are the factors that will get you the best FICO score. As for Insurance plans, she suggests that you familiarize yourself with the different options, understand how they work, and pick the best choice for you.
And finally with regard to financial advisors and retirement plans, she speaks adamantly about how important it is to find a good financial advisor, someone who is qualified and reliable. You need to do your homework. Knowledge is power and it's worth it to take the time to educate yourself so you can manage your life successfully.
Thankfully she covers all of this in her book providing advice, facts, recommendations, and reliable sources!
"Ask questions!" she says. "Life is busy now and we just take information in without asking questions. If you don't understand something, ask questions, that is how you will learn."
Barbara wants the younger generations to succeed in this every-changing world, and she believes that they will! She hopes this book makes it into the hands of every young person... and with it'sbrilliant, concise, easy to read format, it's certainly on it's way!
