The Dreams of Our Children

Ever wonder why only a handful of people really succeed in their chosen paths in life? It is every parents' desire to see their child grow up to reach greater heights. Most parents want their children to go beyond what they have managed to achieve in their lives.

The question to ask is why are some men and women able to achieve greatness whilst many people who can also be considered talented never reach their supposed potential? Time and time again we hear of people whose ships never came in or who gave up on their dreams because it was impossible. The truth is that talent alone will not get your child to the top. Most of us have a gift of some sort

Recognize the gift

When you realize that your child has a passion for something you should encourage them. Without recognition the person's talent will wilt because it is unused. Some children give up on their interests because their parents do not value them or seem not to through their actions or non-actions.

Talent exists in so far as it is recognized. As human beings we desire to be praised and encouraged. It takes a lot of energy and emotion to succeed. The right support keeps people motivated and focused on the goal.

Practice

Greatness is often forged away from the madding crowd. People who are considered to be exceptional spend incredible amounts of time working on their talent. They are not satisfied with just being the best; they want to rise even above the proverbial stars.

Of course you can practice a lot at something but if you are not passionate about it then it will also show. Burnout is a result of inconsistency between passion and the pursuit

Day in day out you have to work at the same things and improve on the faults that you find and this requires focus and discipline. The mentality of the instant generation has no place in the path of those who want to achieve greatness.

The Art of Discipline

You should encourage your children to manage their time properly. Remember that children are still children and should be treated as such. Do not become a control maniac. Give them room to grow and to express themselves.

Balance

Teach them balance, there is time to play and there is time to work. Each session much be used effectively.

Give regular feedback

There is no such thing as constructive criticism but regular assessment of weaknesses and strengths will make the child a better performer. This should not be left to once in a while teacher/ parent consultations.

Evaluate

Evaluating the performance of an individual from constantly is an essential part of the dynamics of success. We need to evaluate in order to determine how far we are from the goal and what we can do to make the journey easier.

Success is a lot of ingredients; it is talent, passion, support. As a parent you have a lot to contribute. You do not just dream the dreams that you want your children to achieve you help them to achieve their dreams.
