The RANGER'S APPRENTICE series, published by Philomel books in hardcover
and Puffin books in paperback, has sold more than one million copies
since first being published in June 2005.  The series spends weeks at a
time on the New York Times bestseller series list and is sold in
eighteen countries. Currently, there are five books in the series, with
the new hardcover, THE SIEGE OF MACINDAW, to be published on August 11,
2009.   The paperback of THE BATTLE FOR SKANDIA, the fourth book in the
series went on sale January 8th.  This month also brings readers the
re-design of the RANGER'S APPRENTICE covers with bright and bold art.

RANGER'S APPRENTICE is an epic fantasy adventure that feels grounded in
history.  RANGER'S APPRENTICE: THE RUINS OF GORLAN is the first book and
introduces readers to the protagonist of the series.  Will is a
foundling who is adopted into the mysterious and secretive Ranger corps
that uses stealth, archery, and courage to defend the kingdom.  With
fast pacing, cinematic battle scenes, sympathetic characters and
heart-stopping drama, readers being introduced to the RANGER'S
APPRENTICE series will eagerly await the next installment.

Michael Green, President and Publisher of Philomel Books said, "Fans of
the Ranger's Apprentice series have been growing by leaps and bounds
with each new book, but we know there is a much larger audience for this
compelling series.  By offering the first book online at no cost, we are
able to reach new kids through popular websites they already frequent.
And as the series' #1 fan, I can't wait to share it with more kids."
